Magnus Carlsen, Mozart-nya Dunia Catur


Turnamen London Classic Desember 2009. Anak muda Norwegia berumur 19 tahun yang terlihat kesulitan menjaga matanya untuk terbuka bertanding menghadapi Vladimir Kramnik, mantan juara dunia dan pemegang peringkat ke-4 saat itu.

Pandangan Magnus Carlsen, sang anak muda, tak pernah lepas dari papan layaknya bocah yang tertarik melihat kayu-kayu kecil berbentuk lucu. Dengan lihai Carlsen memainkan serangan yang ternyata begitu menakutkan. Dan di langkah ke-43, Carlsen memaksa Kramnik menyerah.

Momen tadi mentasbihkan Carlsen menjadi pecatur nomor satu dunia termuda. Ratingnya kini 2810. Unggul 5 poin dari Veselin Toplaov dari Bulgaria yang berumur 34 tahun.Kramnik sendiri ada di posisi keempat dengan 2788 tepat di bawah Viswanathan Anand dengan 2790.

Norwegia sebenarnya tak punya sejarah melahirkan pecatur top. Namun Carlsen mengoyak pakem itu. Terima kasih pada bakat alamnya yang luar biasa.

Ayahnya, Henrik, menceritakan kalau dia lebih kesulitan menyuruh anaknya untuk sekolah ketimbang bermain catur. Saat ini pun Henrik masih harus 'menyeret' anaknya dari depan papan catur untuk ikutan jalan-jalan bersama keluarga.

Walau demikian, Henrik masih sulit untuk percaya kalau sang anak kini menjadi petenis nomor satu dunia. 

"Saya masih harus mencubit tangan saya. Prestasi ini sama sekali tak kami sangka bisa diraih Magnus," kata Henrik seperti dikutip Time.

Magnus Carlsen meraih norma Grand Master pada usia 13 tahun, orang ketiga paling muda sepanjang sejarah. Dua tahun kemudian ia sudah mulai menaklukkan pemain-pemain terkenal dan kemudian mendapat julukan Mozart-nya catur.

Carlsen memilih Garry Kasparov sebagai pelatihnya. Sang pelatih yang disebut sebagai pecatur terbaik sepanjang masa punya pujian yang menggambarkan kehebatan anak didiknya.

"Dia punya intuisi yang dalam yang tak mampu dilakukan komputer. Pupil matanya punya kemampuan alamiah untuk menentukan ke mana bidak-bidak dijalankan," ujar Kasparov.

Walau kini ada di peringkat nomor satu, Carlsen harus tetap berjuang untuk tapil baik di turnamen-turnamen berikut agar bisa lolos ke kejuaraan dunia. Kejuaraan paling bergengsi itu hanya digelar tiap dua atau tiga tahun sekali.

"Saya cinta permainan ini. Saya senang berkompetisi," kata sang nomor satu.
